What is Finance as a Service? A guide for founders

What is Finance as a Service?

By the Finalytics finance team · Updated October 2026

Most growing businesses reach the same point. The founder is still the person chasing invoices, approving payments and answering the accountant's questions. The numbers arrive late, if at all, and nobody can say with confidence where cash will be in three months. The usual answer is to hire. Finance as a Service is the alternative.

What Finance as a Service means

Finance as a Service (FaaS) is a complete finance department, embedded in your business and run for you, for one monthly fee. Instead of hiring a bookkeeper, then an accountant, then eventually a CFO, you get the whole function from day one: the day-to-day work, the reporting, the tax and compliance, and senior finance leadership on the decisions that matter.

It is not a bookkeeping service with a new name. A bookkeeper records what happened. A finance department explains what it means and helps you decide what to do next.

Why it exists

A proper in-house finance team is expensive. A CFO, a senior accountant, software, benefits and recruitment can easily cost AED 80,000 a month before anyone has closed a single month. Most owner-led businesses cannot justify that, so they settle for an accountant who files returns and a founder who does the rest. Finance as a Service closes that gap: a full finance department, for the cost of one hire.

How it compares

An accountant or bookkeeper

Keeps the books and files returns. Useful, but rarely looks forward, rarely challenges a number, and rarely sits in the room when a big decision is made.

An in-house hire

Gives you someone dedicated, but one person cannot be expert in everything from payroll to tax to forecasting. When they leave, the knowledge leaves with them, and you start recruiting again.

Finance as a Service

Gives you a team with the depth of a larger finance function, a CFO-level view on every number, and continuity that does not depend on one person.

What changes for the business

  • Cashflow visibility: you know where cash is heading, not just where it is today, live on FinPulse.
  • Finance leadership: big decisions are made with someone who has seen them before.
  • Margin control: leaks are found early, while they are still small.
  • Tax handled: VAT and corporate tax filed on time, books ready for audit all year.
  • Founder time reclaimed: finance runs without you chasing it.

Who it suits

Finance as a Service fits owner-led businesses that have outgrown doing finance themselves but are not ready, or do not want, to build a full team. It is particularly valuable when a business runs several companies, is preparing for investment or a sale, is behind on its books or tax, or has an accountant whose numbers the owner no longer trusts.

Do I lose control?

No. You keep ownership of your systems, your bank access and every final decision. Payments are made on your approval. What changes is that you decide with better information, earlier.

How to start

It starts with a free Finance Clarity Session about where your finance sits today and what needs fixing first. A finance deep dive follows, and a single proposal then sets out the scope and one monthly fee, with no recruitment and no notice period. See what that looks like for real businesses in our case studies.
